ピュリティオーガニクスは、コルトフ家によって始められました。コルトフ家の先祖は中央ロシアの出身で並々ならない苦労を重ねて20世紀初頭にアメリカのカリフォルニア州カーマンに土地を見つけ移住しました。もともと砂漠のようなところを少しずつ改良していき、牛や鶏を飼い始めました。1967年に 初めてのアーモンド園を造り、数年後にさらにその園を拡張。1996年頃からカリフォルニアで盛り上がっていたオーガニック運動に触発され、ピュリティ オーガニクスでもオーガニックへの転換を志すようになりました。1999年には第一アーモンド園が有機認定を受け、その後数年かけて他の全ての農園 も認定を受けました。後に加工や箱詰めも自分たちで行うようになり、生産から箱詰めまでを行うカリフォルニアで最も大きな有機農家に成長しました。

Purity Organics was started by the Koretoff family who came from Central Russia, and after repeated hardships, settled in Carman, California in the early 20th century. They began by making improvements to seemingly impossible-to-cultivate areas like the desert, and little by little began building farms, starting with cattle and chickens. The first almond garden was built in 1967, and expanded several years later. Inspired by the organic movement that began in California around 1996, their first almond garden was organically certified in 1999, and over the next few years all other farms were also certified. Later they began to process and pack their almonds and grew into California’s largest organic farmer, from production to boxing.

Purity Organics is a family-owned almond farm in central California, one of the world’s leading almond producing areas. Purity have been involved in almond cultivation for over 30 years, and have been organic since 1999. Purity Organics cultivates, waters, and monitors the farms, taking care of the entire process from harvesting to processing, boxing and distribution. All of their farms and processing equipment are certified by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF), Kosher, and meet IFOAM standards.

アーモンドはどうやって収穫していると思いますか？機械で幹をはさんで、揺らして落としているんです！なんとも豪快。実際やっていただきましたが、木がびりびり振動！近くに立っていたので、地響きを感じて、怖いくらいでした。木がダメージを受けないよう、ほんの数秒間だけしか行わないそうです。機械が導入される前には、ハンマーで木の枝をたたき、実を落としていたそうです。

How do you think almonds are harvested? We were amazed the first time we saw a machine shaking an almond tree to harvest the nuts. To ensure the tree isn’t damaged, the shaking only lasts a few seconds, a big step up from the traditional harvesting method of hitting the trees with a hammer.
